Need help with 3rd world hardware questions - Raspberry Pi Forums

hi everyone

in bangladesh. have particular problems here; voltage spikes , power outages 2 hours , 6-8 hours. trying think through hardware may need projects handle this.

first interested in buying pi make wifi media center in combination 1 of portable rechargeable speakers. idea stream off nas wifi. set speaker in room, or take set on trip me. hardware pi + wifi usb card. nas, wan, , internet on big ups going on larger battery up.

secondly, want couple of cameras in house, connected internet wifi, see going on in absence. want rig system notes when door(s) opened. should easy, involving circuit opening when door opened. have people working me in house , great @ ten-to-knocking off time have speaker caution people lock doors, , "the door closed" when door closes. idle thinking. anyway, applications. guess hardware here pi + camera module + wifi usb card again.

set on using pi wifi camera project. may use 1 of alternatives media center (i'd use beaglebone black except doesn't have av out - pi wins on front).

i've been looking @ problem couple of days, on , off. first product think may job of battery 3.7v 12000mah portable external charger £14.99 (or pound more in black). small enough me mount on wall, or half way between power point , wifi camera/pi. output usb, guess power pi usb->usb mini cable.

take power surge without passing on pi? or need surge protector? found cheap-but-good surge protector belkin £5.99.

you, gentle folk of pi community?

how many amps trying up? 12 amp hours sounds long time, keep pi going 6 hours+.

perhaps car battery , step down converter?

my company uses aladdin etoken pro authentication on vpn connections. etoken requires pki client application on client machine before os recognize it. app , token work fine on xp, use ubuntu on laptop. aladdin has offered linux version of client, rpm. convinced our internal guys rpms, , i've been trying work couple days. begin with, hp pavilion dv4-1435dx laptop running jaunty 64-bit. - started out converting .rpm .deb using alien: code: sudo alien -d pkiclient-5.00.28-0.x86_64.rpm - worked fine , got nice little .deb - next, ran .deb install client: code: sudo dpkg -i pkiclient_5.00.28-1_amd64.deb - , executed without errors/issues. pdf rpm said there should launcher @ applications > etoken > start etoken pki client, didn't exist. figured might because installed deb instead of rpm. bounced box, still wasn't there. no big deal... - install network manager can configure vpn connection use token: code: sudo aptit...

Crossfader Arduino Tutorial

hello i'm super newb please don't bash me much. i'm using led's , i've connected them correctly (finally) , wondering why program here ( http://www.arduino.cc/en/tutorial/colorcrossfader ) doesn't work? say's haven't declared crossfade. read directions on top , said crossfade needs used list order of colors. isn't declared in main part (void loop() )? or need declared before? nevermind void on bottom , needed before voidloop. lol anyways playing rgb led's wondering if has specific way of making them fade in , out different colors?
