this may dumb question, can arduino uno power 12 inch tall 7 segment display? here data sheet display , product page: http://evilmadscience.com/productsmenu/partsmenu/107-sevensegment & http://s3.amazonaws.com/evilmadscience/im/led/bl-se1200a.pdf.

no, arduino outputs can handle 5v @ 40 ma, near 31.5v @ 80 ma.

the model stock common anode means segments share common + side , have separate - sides.  need + side driver can handle 35v @ 560 ma (80 * 7) , - side drivers can handle 35v @ 80 ma (like npn transistor or n-channel mosfet).  power 35 40v @ 560 * digits ma (more half , amp per digit).

Crossfader Arduino Tutorial

hello i'm super newb please don't bash me much. i'm using led's , i've connected them correctly (finally) , wondering why program here ( http://www.arduino.cc/en/tutorial/colorcrossfader ) doesn't work? say's haven't declared crossfade. read directions on top , said crossfade needs used list order of colors. isn't declared in main part (void loop() )? or need declared before? nevermind void on bottom , needed before voidloop. lol anyways playing rgb led's wondering if has specific way of making them fade in , out different colors?
