New to arduino with ambitious project for work

hi,

im hoping obtain have been tasked project work including arduino system , have purchase arduino units before begin project allow lead times.

my project remote control of isdn unit on satellite modems(analogue audio) dtmf tones , arduino.

i have identified mt8880 ic dtmf transiever on both sides , need specify , buy arduino types require have not yet touched arduino seems quite tricky.

if supply list of pre requisites , brief system diagram can grab recommendations arduino boards?

requirements:

arduino unit 1- data connectivity mt8880 ic recieving/transmitting dtmf code information.
                     - connection lcd display feed other side of satellite link
                     - connection 4 x 4 keypad (numbers 1-9, * , #, b c d
arduino unit 2- data connectivity mt8880 ic rx/tx dtmf code info
                     - rs232 serial connection control of c500xr isdn unit.
                     - connection pd25 unit automatic (timed) disconnect command should link lost.

any recommendations units should purchase appreciated.
