DW 8 dif from DW MX w/ css & sites: help!

i upgraded dreamweaver 8 (yes, i've been avoiding it.: many projects, no time learning curve). i've tried using bit , it's driving me nuts. feel idiot writing posting because these have simple solutions can't figure them out. here dilemmas:

1. in css panel, there no longer seems "no css style" option. gone or hidden?

2. when hightlight text i'd css style applied to, in older versions of dw 1 clicked on style name in css panel. when click on style name, nothing happens. have right-click 'apply style'. doing wrong? there new way apply css?

3. in local files panel, when double click on file open it, site starts connect remote server. driving me nuts. not ok.

4. when site starts connect remote server, gives me message:
"this site has been set use macromedia contibute users. want dreamweaver enable required site settings compatibiltiy contribute sites?".
(a) site has not been set use contribute yet (other sites have, guess, pre-dw 8), , (b) said "yes" once. said "no" time. i'm afraid deselect "don't show message again" because don't know what's happening when click yes or no. don't understadn means!

5. , finally, files take forever upload! not ok. worst offender... suggestions?

thank generously in advance insight frustrations. i'm using dw mx now.

it's moved right-click context menu quicktagselector.

select text, , use style selector on property inspector
apply class.

this means have enabled contribute site. have you?

ahh - see. if not going use contribute site,
don't enable in site's definition. if enable contribute,
then how works (and has been), since doing that,
change entire work paradigm using local site 'gold
standard' using remote site 'gold standard'. that, dw
*must* connect remote site check file out in order
edit it.

this combination of server/network traffic. sites,
files upload fast. have tried enabling passive ftp?
