Drop in chip is not letting me upload sketches but is running fine

hi all, bought atmega328p ebay, programmed bootloader. has blink sketch running on it. hoping use uno act programmer download sketch want run in standalone project.

when put processor in uno can see blink sketch starts cant download it. error avrdude: stk500_getsync(): not in sync: resp=0x00. when ide trying upload see rx led flash few times nothing , blink sketch continues run.

i have put original 328p in same board , upload fine.

is there vital i'm missing or dodgy processor?

try different board types in ide. might have duemilanove bootloader, example.

Crossfader Arduino Tutorial

hello i'm super newb please don't bash me much. i'm using led's , i've connected them correctly (finally) , wondering why program here ( http://www.arduino.cc/en/tutorial/colorcrossfader ) doesn't work? say's haven't declared crossfade. read directions on top , said crossfade needs used list order of colors. isn't declared in main part (void loop() )? or need declared before? nevermind void on bottom , needed before voidloop. lol anyways playing rgb led's wondering if has specific way of making them fade in , out different colors?
