Sight for the Blind for <100$ - Raspberry Pi Forums
hello all,
crosschecked raspberry pi specs's against running software designed peter meijer runs site:
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/
made software takes webcam input , converts soundscape, providing sight blind @ resolution more competitive surgical methods costing many orders of magnitude more.
in drive bring cost of sight blind down, think rpi cheapest possible hardware platform run software on lowest power consumption (longest battery life, cheaper batteries), , can't find information on being done yet. current implementations use hardware costs $400-500, , believe rpi can $100.
have produced version android app, think should possible make run on rpi, think can @ lower level, , more on rpi how android app operating. android app has lower resolution original program, because of performance issues, or maybe intellectual property issues.
think worthy goal, , i've emailed him make him aware if isn't already. more people in touch him on subject, more set code free purpose. notice has free versions. perhaps if had rpi developers code not exceed capabilities of free versions might interested
if have coding skills, , think link image processing sound generation, should ahold of guy!
don't have low level coding skills, these may not required. looks using high level languages on windows machines, , recommends processing power less rpi's specs.
if lower level implementation going, there should no performance issues.
rpi silly projects, kind of project carries lot of meaning everyone. if have skills, please consider it. if don't have skills, think politely pestering peter might spur on.
thanks, mike
edit:
peter aware of thread , has been posting. therefore, not necessary pester him!

going start sifting through , see takes me.hi mike,
thank interest. people on seeingwithsound list
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/subscribe.htm have been working towards
version of voice raspberry pi, based on elementary c code

, opencv. join seeingwithsound list , ask around
current status.
best regards,

hi mike,
there modified version of hificode.c soundscape generation program can use opencv under windows or linux sounding live camera view:
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/hificode_opencv.cpp
quite unpolished code not optimized in way, started. context on hard-coded images (now disabled default left in debugging purposes), visit
http://www.seeingwithsound.com/im2sound.htm
chance android ported raspberry pi "soonish"? 1 run voice android on raspberry pi. however, looks progress in area has slowed down lately, judging recent discussion @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthr ... ?t=2321557
best regards,
peter
