dmesg and lsusb give same output whether board is connected or not
i have 2 arduino fio ports. running ubuntu 11.10, , installed arduino 22 via apt-get (0022ubuntu0.1). have restarted after installation.
in tools tab, serial port menu disabled.
the board connected computer via usb, , yellow/orange diode on.
i have read quite few topics on website find solution, , helpful people on forum asks result of dmesg , lsusb. however, when lsusb, result same when board connected when not. same true dmesg; same output connected , disconnected board. have tried both of 2 arduino fio boards.
isnt dmesg , lsusb supposed print additional or different information when boards connected?
sincerely, velle

are cable, usb port, , hubs in path known good? if plug else same cable , port, behavior?
cables go bad, , had bad 1 new right out of box last week.
dmesg shows syslog entries, can buffered few seconds (but aren't). lsusb shows state of bus @ time execute command. think must root run lsusb.
