Adafruit motor shield
i bought shield http://www.adafruit.com/products/81 , on page on how use http://www.ladyada.net/make/mshield/use.html
a few paragraphs down says "need more power ??" , explains if piggyback ic can double current. that's did. ic generates lot of heat, on 35c. , have take out.
why happening , there anyway reduce heat without ic heat shield not have 1 hand ??

more power through ic means more heat. however, ics rated take fair amount of temperature before failing. 35 c (less body temperature) not problem.
typically, ics rated 85 c, , rated higher (such 125 c) -- check data sheet make sure.
if hot, next step add heat sink heat sink grease or glue. there specific "chip back" heat sinks can get, strip of metal bigger chip work (more better.)
