Make 2x7 led segment count with joystick

hi all!

im wondering if approach projects seems right?

i'm trying 2 x7 segments led displays count when pushing "sparkfun joystick" momentary switches (http://www.sparkfun.com/products/9182)

when push (and hold) 1 way display count 1-99, when realease joystick meter should stop @ number e.g. 45.
when push (and hold) other way should counts backwards e.g. 45-1 , stop.
i want control delay between counts. possible?

i have ordered few 74hc595n witch think / need 7 segments led displays.
is there else think need? , if have hints code appreciated!

Crossfader Arduino Tutorial

hello i'm super newb please don't bash me much. i'm using led's , i've connected them correctly (finally) , wondering why program here ( http://www.arduino.cc/en/tutorial/colorcrossfader ) doesn't work? say's haven't declared crossfade. read directions on top , said crossfade needs used list order of colors. isn't declared in main part (void loop() )? or need declared before? nevermind void on bottom , needed before voidloop. lol anyways playing rgb led's wondering if has specific way of making them fade in , out different colors?
