file upload applet recommendations
greetings,
we building large-scale extranet heavily involve user uploads of various files, including potentially large videos. in past we've used file fields , handled stream cffile , cfftp. however, thinking need java applet 2 reasons:
1. allow multiple files @ once (this not critical)
2. able check file size on client (this extremely helpful), , stop upload if it's large.
at launch, users on macs , firefox--however, things change; assured though never able specify all-windows, assume activex "right out". of our assumptions, please set straight!
once files uploaded, need database file information (it placed kind of cms), it's going have more "dump folder". ideally applet "hand off" cf process this; suppose set kind of listener upload directory seems less ideal. again, ideas on how might work welcome.
related process: we've used various image-manipulation server-side programs cf, don't know of video. might able manipulate video we'd love hear about, if it's monster server/package.
thanks,
rick
