learning....unexpected results with RGB led

hello,

fairly new , trying learn don't hate :)

i have uno connected sparkfun 16x2 lcd backpack, spectra softpot, , controllable rgb led amplifier / 16ft led strip. 

i've jumbled code various sketches i've come across of own , seemed work pretty until got lcd attached.  didn't notice during fade tests each led working backwards "0" full on , "255" off.  lcd apparent when displayed red led level , @ 255 had no red.  whats best way correct outputs short of inverting values manually?  read mapping dont understand how invert way im trying to.  need pull or down led pins?  other ways possible (for learning sake).

i don't want given code, little direction learn.

Crossfader Arduino Tutorial

hello i'm super newb please don't bash me much. i'm using led's , i've connected them correctly (finally) , wondering why program here ( http://www.arduino.cc/en/tutorial/colorcrossfader ) doesn't work? say's haven't declared crossfade. read directions on top , said crossfade needs used list order of colors. isn't declared in main part (void loop() )? or need declared before? nevermind void on bottom , needed before voidloop. lol anyways playing rgb led's wondering if has specific way of making them fade in , out different colors?
