Dreamweaver Local Remote Sites Confusion
hey all,
i have been happily authoring sites directly on ftp servers 3+ years not contain applications.
i have gotten first 2 small applications jobs clients.
from understand dw - not smart develop directly on shared hosting server develop , test locally when works - upload remote site.
but these applications on pre-exisitng sites. here simple comments , questions hoping enlighten me on, confirm, or give me better procedure.
remember - have never developed locally before reason. such confused learning "proper" practice. these aren't in order.
1 - when define site define new. set local folder. when asks me remote server information - put in existing site ftp information. correct?
2 - have local folder empty , remote full - have "get" existing web site pages , images. correct?
3 - - develop app (i'm on mac) - have php , apache , mqsql turned on locally. think correct.
4 - develop app locally (without inadvertantly uploading ftp server , taking chance on screwing server)
5 - @ point local.
6 - once app working correctly. set databases on remote server - importing database information location - uploading local site remote server. correct?
7 - having never done practice before - how keep hard drives filling sites do? if commited having local copy of each of clients on harddrive? guess looking practice or procedure here.
8 - in files>show pulldown have both ftp icons (remote sites) , folders (local sites) correct?
i apologize "over-carefulization" , number of questions. tend on think things point i'm tentative anything. , don't want inadvertantly overwrite whole site accidentally. (should until comfortable process - turn on check in check out feature? or overkill since i'm 1 man shop?) i'm hoping helps else in similar shoes.
many - appreciate help.
