Thread: How intel driver with second high resolution monitor without EDID?

subject says almost:
have notebook intel (965), , want attach second monitor. alas, despite of being high-end monitor (crt) 1600x1200, not provide edid info.
being on notebook, can't disable built-in screen (1024x768), second monitor go same resolution , same horizontal frequency (60 hz); in short: lousy , flickery.
if nvidia, i'd know twinview, , dfp settings , whatnot. how make intel driver?
played /etc/x11/xorg.conf, no avail.
tried 'display' settings (gnome-display-properties), since cannot recognize monitor, stuck 1024x768 @ 60 hz.
last effort xrandr, shows same values. tried bump them up, explained in man page, refuses, stating 1024x1024 maximum set.

suggestion welcome,

uwe
