Thread: Screen resolution 42" plasma?

hi everyone,

have following problem; looks simple, cannot work.

of know, displaying image via hdmi connection problematic whit geforce boards.
due overscan problem, whereas signal sent on hdmi, larger display can show.
result: missing upper/lower/left/right borders of screen, no linux taskbar etc.
solution: take smaller resolution.

solved problem partly xrandr.
use now, resolution 1600x1024, , set via xrandr in startup script.

unfortunately, resolution not correctly 19:6 aspect ratio
left , right, still have black border. vertically screen nicely filled top bottom.
according 19:6 aspect ratio should have 1820x1024 resolution fill screen.

remaining problem:
how add custom resolution??
followed may guidelines xrandr; , go follows:
(changing xorg.conf not nvidia drivers , or jaunty)

see modes running system screens connected:
code:
xrandr
get modeline resolution:
code:
gtf 1820 1024 60
to persist new resolution:
code:
xrandr --newmode <modename> <modeline gtf feedback> xrandr --addmode default "<modename given above>"
to change resolution
code:
xrandr --output default --mode "<modename given above>" or xrandr -s <modename given above>
this adds new resolution in xrandr list.

when switch error saying resolution cannot set.

can me please???
i'm quite long time on painful problem!

system:
ubuntu jaunty 9.04
plasma screen 42inch

in advance!

johan
