Thread: help on editing my path!

i pretty new linux terminal, have been trying learn as can week now. using linuxcommand.org speed learning process, , have found helpful. there chapter on writing scripts contains simple hello world program. website states 1 should have bin directory inside of home directory in store scripts. gives vague "instructions" on how edit path include ~/bin.

"a better way edit .bash_profile file include above command. way, done automatically every time log in."

not seem have .bash_profile, have been looking around on different websites , understand, editing .bashrc accomplish same thing. tried entering: "export path=$path:~/bin" .bashrc fileand typed name of hello world script had created earlier, , got "command not found" error message. necessary restart/log in work. ask because not have ubuntu installed (i running cd drive) , therefore can not log out without erasing everything.

appreciated.

yes, i'm pretty sure need reboot, or @ least log out , in

try adding "cd ~/bin" end of bashrc. i'm not informed on try lol
