Assistance/Help needed designing 3A / 12V power supply
hello arduinians -
looking assistance current project. have googled around, either finding many different answers, or not correct information application. apologize in advance n00b questions.
i controlling 12v fan gpio pin (on/off not speed) using mosfet circuit. fan uses 6 watts of power @ 12 v (580ma).
my ultimate goal control 8 various fans total of draw 40 watts of power (3.3 amps).
there 1 other part of circuit, not related fans, requires filtered 12v on power supply of op-amp.
the (stupid?) questions how design, or acquire power supply capable of delivering 12v @ 3.3 amps fans , filtered 12v op-amp?
i have bunch of lm7812 ic's 1 of thoughts wire 4 in parallel, 3 fans , 1 rest of op-amp not know if possible or reccomended haven't tried that. i found few components http://www.slpower.com/data/collateral/mint1065_ds.pdf, not sure correct choice application, seem expensive, , not clear on how filtered supply of op-amp (is rc comes in?)
any appreciated! thank you
david

well, there number of choices. use old pc supply. here's instructable show how: http://www.instructables.com/id/convert-an-atx-power-supply-into-a-regular-dc-powe/.
or buy new one. here's source selection of affordable supplies: http://www.mpja.com/single-output-supplies/products/3/.
how filtering need opamp going depend on application although purposes think regulated supply should work.
