Change string for USB-Serial device (Mega2560)

its easy change string on ftdi-based ardunios dangerous prototype's pirate-rename application.  having abililty apply custom hardware names makes easier figure out arduino you'd talk in case have more one.

however, since mega 2560 not have ftdi chip, i'm looking information how can change identifier string reports via usb-serial connection.  instance, appears /dev/tty.usbmodem1d21.  i'd @ least change 1d21 if not entire string after "usb".

how accomplish that?  in eeprom?  if so, location?

the hardware page mega describes firmware atmega16u2 on board provides usb communication. lead source code , descriptors.c contains device identification strings.

looks lot of effort , excellent way mess board if make mistake.

Crossfader Arduino Tutorial

hello i'm super newb please don't bash me much. i'm using led's , i've connected them correctly (finally) , wondering why program here ( http://www.arduino.cc/en/tutorial/colorcrossfader ) doesn't work? say's haven't declared crossfade. read directions on top , said crossfade needs used list order of colors. isn't declared in main part (void loop() )? or need declared before? nevermind void on bottom , needed before voidloop. lol anyways playing rgb led's wondering if has specific way of making them fade in , out different colors?
