Potentially stupid question about Numitron tubes

...can use max7219 drive 'em? i've been perving on iv-9's , looking @ voltage/current requirements, doesn't seem million miles away led need, long current set resistor chosen (i have lookup table). fancy quirky, interesting display play with, , it'd handy if can drive them parts own.

i have bcd 7seg logic chips dozen too, fewer parts have use, better. also, there recommended socket/retainer type people use these things, save me potentially buying wrong ones , being stuck them? see have long leads rather fat "valve" pins on bottom.

the "numitron" tube developed rca in 60's or 70's low voltage replacement "nixie". uses 20 volts on digit anodes (works @ 12 v.. in direct experience) has filament tat must powered (1.5 - 6 volts @ 100 - 500ma) depends on spec part. not familiar russian iv series principles same... take great deal of work interface max7219. used cd4017's decade counters , drove digit anodes 2n3906's 1 of 10 outputs of cd4017. actual details somewhat... did thing in 20's , 66 years old now. point there 1 wire each "number/value' , not done 7 segment decoder/driver '7219. supply voltages different (the cd series had max voltage of 18v , spec'd @ 15 volts, making them great choice decade counters... in similar project used 7442's (bcd decimal) , mux'd them, 8 data lines 4 digit data , 4 addressing digit counter/latch. old school , questionable here except beginning interfacing iv series of displays
